IFoS full form is Indian Forest Service.

The Indian Forest Service (IFoS) is one of the Union Government’s three All-India Services, along with the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS).

Indian Forest Service was formed in 1864 as the Imperial Forest Service under the British Raj and was renamed in 1966 under the All India Services Act, 1951, by the Government of India.

The UPSC conducts an open competitive examination to appoint IFoS officers, who are then trained for two years at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy by the Central Government.

IFoS officers are assigned to various State and joint cadres, and as an All India Service, they are mandated to represent both the State and the Central Governments.
